Pastor Dave has gone...

Sadly, but not unexpectedly, our beloved pastor died of leukemia yesterday. He was 51. He lived with what he called a "blood disorder" for many years but it wasn't until the last year that we really understood what was wrong. He tried valiantly to stay-- twice-weekly blood transfusions kept him in the pulpit for the last three months. But, by the last Sunday of Advent, he was too weak to deliver his sermon. At that point, he decided to stop the transfusions and we never saw him again. His parents came to nurse him with the help of Hopsice and he died one month later.

He was unmarried so he belonged almost completely to us. The one good thing about this is that we have only ourselves and his parents to comfort after our great loss. One comfort: Our Haitian missionary is here and can help us celebrate the life of Pastor Dave next Wednesday.

Well done, good and faithful servant. May the Angels lift you into the presence of the Eternal, Gracious God. May you at last find the freedom of forever healing.

Peace.
